Let’s do it together!: How to implement Open Science practices in research projects

The Science, Communication and Society Studies Centre of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra organized the event Let’s do it together!: How to implement Open Science practices in research projects in Madrid, on the 30th November 2019, targeting researchers and beneficiaries of Madrid autonomous community funding programmes in the period 2018-2019

The objectives of this workshop were to integrate RRI in the research and innovation workflow of Madrid autonomous community funded regional programmes and co-design and deliver demand-driven RRI training to more than 80 Madrid regional funded projects spanning biomedical, ICTs, food security, material and energy research.

The first part of the session was dedicated to Framing RRI and Open Science and explaining the Relevance of RRI & Open Science to Societal Impact, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Open Innovation. Then in a plenary session, specific aspects of Open Data, Open Source, Open Access and licences were approached, and an example-based demonstration of how to optimize the synergies and to avoid the conflicts between Open Science and traditional Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) was given. Also in plenary session the concepts of public engagement and citizen science were approached, as a means to include citizens in the research and innovation process and consider the attitudes, values and expectations of society to improve the innovation system.

This event received a grant from the FIT4RRI project within its call for training events on Responsible Research and Innovation and Open Science.
